In reading part of your suggestions for Ophiuchus' state of the game, I was surprised one of the ideas you requested was a more inclusive event. You stated that some characters (I'm assuming you meant your own) weren't interested in expeditions/exploring, but I feel like Stiles as a character contradicts that claim completely. Teen Wolf begins because Stiles grabs Scott and drags him to the woods. He's nosy, he gets into everybody's business and you had Stiles mope around for months.
While, yes, coming back from an update from the events of 3B would effect Stiles, I would never go so far as to say he'd hole up in his hut alone and simply mope. This season has proven that. He's going throughout his day, moving forward and being a great influence on Malia. You hardly have him interact with his own cast. Despite Isaac not being his favorite person, I'd hardly think he'd shy away from everyone including the only people he knows from home. Yes, Scott is gone but Scott wouldn't want Stiles to sit around moping and he knows that.
While Allison dying is a huge deal, I don't think he'd ever stay away indefinitely. Even for Scott's sake, he'd look out for the love of his best bro's life.
I think you're getting better at putting him out there, but his attitude is hardly what I'd call Stiles.
My suggestions are to reincorporate him into his own cast, talking to other people besides Rachel, and to go on a freaking expedition. Because he would.
> You hardly have him interact with his own cast. Despite Isaac not being his favorite person, I'd hardly think he'd shy away from everyone including the only people he knows from home.
Up until lately, the only cast that's been in the game and active enough to interact with has been Allison (who I currently have a thread going with). Lydia's player had dropped and came back last month, then took a semi-hiatus during that, so interacting with her hasn't been possible until recently (and I have a thread with her atm), and Isaac's player has also been on a hiatus (I've also had a thread with them recently). Yes, he keeps an eye on Allison, but he also knows there's a thing going with Isaac and her and due to player time constraints, I've just felt it's easier to handwave that they sort of keep an eye on each other instead of being attached at the hip.
>My suggestions are to reincorporate him into his own cast, talking to other people besides Rachel...
As mentioned before, the cast hasn't been entirely accessible, but I am hoping to have him do more when the players of the characters are available. The comment about Rachel is a bit confusing since the character only just returned back to the game and, frankly, she's never been the only character that he's interacted with. He talks to Caroline (who lives with him now) quite a bit, along with Velma. I'm a little unsure as to why Rachel's character is being pointed out other than maybe because the player and I are friends and happen to ship them in another game, which is something we took into consideration regarding other games and no, they will not be an exclusive thing here in the slightest.
Aside from that, he is starting to get out more, which was the whole purpose of me having him get the dog as a boon, to get him to snap out of his funk and have to take care of something other than himself.
As for the rest of it, I will completely agree that I haven't had Stiles be as active or as nosy as he might usually be. From my perspective, and I know that this isn't the way everyone else would look at it, Stiles is in a depressive cycle right now. He's just come back from the end of 3b and while, like you said, he went on with his day and moved forward and helped Malia, that isn't the same situation as he has here. He had a support system back home to get him through the things he did. He had people he could rely on and other people he needed to step up and take care of. On Ophi, his best friend got taken away, Derek's gone, and Isaac, who left in 3b, is canoodling his best friend's ex, who he still feels he had a hand in killing. Season 4 shows us his being able to move on after months because he had his support and family around him. He doesn't have that here, in addition to him not having access to his medication, and while he has people here he likes, he doesn't have anyone he feels he can talk to about what he went through. He's gone into the 'ignore the problem until it goes away' mode, only that's a lot harder for him since this isn't like him failing a test or screwing up on the lacrosse field.
It hasn't been the same sort of recovery time for him and he hasn't dealt with it at all, in addition to him feeling alone here. As I said, this is why I asked for the dog, because Stiles does need to feel like he's doing something for someone and right now, being stuck on a planet far from home and feeling entirely too alone, exploring and doing any sort of expedition isn't on the list of things he's concerned about right now. He doesn't want to explore. But I'm hoping that having to take care of the dog (and yes, eventually care for it), will get him out of that spiral and make him realize that he's here, he can't do anything about being here, so he needs to get more involved in things.
I really do apologize if you feel like I haven't been true to the character and I totally understand that my way of playing him is headcanon based right now and that it won't agree with everyone's views, but I also hope that this explains my thought process behind it and that I do have a reason for doing it and I'm not just having him be a mopey emo teen jerk. I do plan on having him be more active, with both his cast and crosscanon cr, and I also plan on having him partake of an expedition. I just plan on doing it a little bit further down the road.
I'm happy to discuss any more points with you and if you have suggestions on how to get him to acclimate more quickly, I'd welcome them. I appreciate you taking the time to leave this as I really do want to make sure that I'm portraying Stiles accurately and not making anyone feel excluded.
Hi there! This is just a weird and random question but I was wondering why Stiles is an Aquarius in Ophiuchus when his birthday is April 8th? This really isn't a crit so I don't know if this is the right place to be asking but MTV wished him a happy birthday on Twitter a while back and it was in April: even though the TW calendar has his birthday listed as June 6th. Just to be confusing.
Hi =) I have no problem answering this question and I'm actually glad you asked. The timeline of Teen Wolf is something that's always been a bit wonky and up for a lot of debate. The 'registered birthdays' for both Allison and Lydia don't match up the timeline of what's happened in the show at all, and even going by the calendar and the MTV birthday wishes, it still doesn't make sense.
Season 1 starts after the winter break and it stays in the same year all the way up until Season 4, which starts at pretty much the same time the year after. If you go by an April or June birthday for Stiles, that wouldn't make too much sense since Allison was wigging that she was a year ahead of everyone, so Stiles would have (if that had been his birthday) only been turning 16, which would have made him 15 beforehand and that's not the legal Californian age to be driving. Add to that, 3a has Heather asking him 'have you?' in relation to him losing his virginity and he replies with 'turned seventeen yet? no', so he's clearly still sixteen at that point. While handcuffed up in the sheriff's station with Chris in 3b, Derek says 'Well, I'm not interested in being a victim to a 17-year old possessed by a psychotic fox', which indicates that somewhere between 3a and 3b, Stiles had a birthday. Since that's pretty much near the end of the year by that point, I can safely assume that whatever his birthday is, it's clearly not June or April.
So in essence, Lydia and Allison are the only characters in the series that have had birthdays played out on-screen, so, to my mind (and because no one in the show on-screen has said 'Stiles' birthday is ___), Lydia and Allison are the only two with actual canon birthdays. The rest is up for debate and estimation. Jeff has continuously shown that details aren't really a big thing for him (such as not 'getting' why people want to know how old Derek or anyone else is, for that matter), and I find that a lot of things that have been said by the cast/crew can sometimes contradict what happens in the show. Heck, Erica even made mention of her own birthday and that was contradicted in the beginning of the next season with her Missing poster. Teen Wolf isn't exactly the series for stable details.
So, keeping in mind that he doesn't have a stable canon birthday, I went by the rules of the game, which was to pick one out that best fit him going by the attributes of the signs. As much as I would have liked to have tried to pick something that fell in closer to what the show seems to have backed him into (something between 3a and the end of 3b), none of those months quite fit him in terms of him matching up with the most attributes. I'll C/P what I put in as a birthday suitability explanation and I hope that it and the rest of this answers your question sufficiently.
February 4th / Aquarius | I've chosen this since he has no canon birthday that's actually legitimate (gives TW the finger), but the negative attributes of this sign, along with most of the positives, pretty much fit him. He can be rude and tactless to those he doesn't like, he is definitely a little perverse and sort of naughty oriented and I honestly wouldn't put peeping past him (re: the scene in S1 with him coming upon Scott and Allison kissing and just sort of chilling out to watch from behind the locker). He is uncertain about his own worth and can be self-interested in how things affect him more than others, and I'd say he can be very unwilling to share certain things that he thinks of as 'his'. Like Scott. (Get your own best friend, Isaac) Positively, he is very loyal and he doesn't need approval to go and do things on his own that he thinks can and will help those he's decided to help. Communication is his thing, whether people actually want to hear him is sometimes up for debate. He cares, sometimes to the point where he refuses to see the bad, even if it's pointed out to him. I'd say out of the twelve signs and given the pos/neg attributes listed, Aquarius definitely suits him best.
Thank you for taking the time to ask and, again, I hope this answers your question to your satisfaction.
