[ she only nods, at first, because she's busy trying to figure out how many colors they need to pick out, and how to explain it. but, eh, it'll be his dragon, so she's pretty sure he'll get the picture that whatever he picks, that's what he'll look like. so. ]
I need... seven different shades. Primarily his wings, his body, and the little scales and ridges along his body should be different colors, but blending it to look like a natural creature should be simple enough. [ if it were up to her, she'd be going color crazy. but she always does. she's a paint-outside-the-lines and make-the-sky-pink-and-the-grass-blue kinda gal. but she's brushing her thumb over each part of the dragon while she explains it, peeking up at him once she's done ] Now help me pick which ones I should use.
[ and bleep, blop, bloop, timey wimey, they pick out colors, and she drags him off of the bed and into the spare chair she has pulled up to her desk, which is better lit and better suited for a detailed coloring project. it takes her a little longer than half an hour, but that's with stops to ask Stiles his opinion along the way, and a few second thoughts on colors, the whole thing. by the end of it, she's used a few of her new colored pencils and oil pastels, her fingers stained all different colors and the hem of her shirt looking much the same, but she looks very much in her element. it's exactly why she was so crazy about his present. Rachel feels more at home here than she has since her arrival now that her hands are messy and she's got a project worth putting her heart into.
once the dragon is done, it's a fine mix of Stiles' favorite colors, and the natural colors a dragon should have without looking too crazy. she's ridiculously pleased with it. ]
Okay. [ yes, she's just going to kind of hug his arm while she looks over the drawing, because this dragon is about to become real, and besides a couple of geckos, it's the first big page-pull she's tried. ] Like him? Last chance to make any changes.
[Through it all, he'd been watching her as much as watching the dragon appear. She looked more vibrant and yet calm all at the same time, like she was in some zen zone and he should envy her. He did, a little. He could never focus on things that intently, less so since he didn't have his meds here.
She has a smudge of pastel on her face and he's been staring at it, trying not to reach over and wipe it off. He's trying so hard not to do that, he misses that she's talking to him. But he's pulled out of his thoughts by her arm through his, a smile automatically stapling itself in place.]
Huh, oh, yeah. He's great. No changes needed. He's perfect as is.
[ she's still kind of just looking at the page for a bit, but eventually she sits up again, pulling both hands free so she can figure out the best way to pick the dragon up off the page without it freaking out. so, two hands. she's not sure how much of her imagination actually goes into the personalities of the animals she draws, but she sure he focusing on some pretty specific traits. calm, but playful. tough, but obedient. above all else, please protect Stiles. ]
When I pull him off the page, he's going to want to be claimed by me, initially. But if you let him see your fire powers, you'll sweep him right off his little dragon feet, I promise.
[ not that she's giving him much time to think about it, because her fingers sink into the page pretty quick after that, and when they pull back out, she's holding the dragon around its middle, letting it plop down on the desk right on top of the now blank page he came off of. he looks sleepy, like he was just woken up, but Rachel doesn't hesitate before tucking her finger under his chin, lightly scratching. the little dragon stretches out his wings and flicks his tail, but otherwise just tips his head up and shuts his eyes, intent on feeling out that chin scratch for all its worth ]
[Excuse him, Rachel. He's too busy staring to do anything actually constructive. Holy shit. She just actually pulled an actual dragon actually off the actual page. Actually.
And it was moving and looking very much not like the little plastic gecko he'd seen her do. No, it was a living, breathing dragon.
Not the time for an excited boner, Stiles. No. Bad boner.
He shifted in his seat, hiding what was clearly not an inconvenient woody as he bent his head down to desk level and just stared at him.]
[ she's really excited too. it's pretty much an artist's dream to see her work come to life, so this is a Moment. for sure. but she's also sure is moment is going to slip up in a the-ragon-thinks-i'm-his-mommy way, so she rests her hand flat on the desk, sitting back once the dragon takes a step closer to her and expectantly nudges his snout against her fingers. ]
[Please don't notice the blush. He's still looking at the dragon with wide eyes, but he's bringing a hand up to stroke over the top of its head. It feels... like a lizard. Not like a snake, but definitely lizardy.]
Hey there, little guy. What should I call you, huh? Something with too many weird consonants? Xs and zs? Maybe some js for good measure?
[His finger was smoothing down the head to the back before coming up and trying to scritch under the chin like she had.]
He's a dragon, not a 90s rap artist. Name him after a book character you like. Or a movie character. Or an actor. Or mix and match. Or- anything, actually, he's your dragon, sorry.
[He keeps scratching under his chin, his other hand coming up to light the tip of his finger on fire. Just a sort of finger-wick candle that he waves at the dragon with.]
I'm not naming him James Earl Jones. He's not really a Darth anything...
[But he was so cute and Stiles had to bite back saying that.]
[ and the dragon reacts to that, just like Rachel was sure he would. he dips his upper body low, tail swishing again, wings pushed out behind him. but it's all playful, which is clear once he lifts his face up and puffs a burp small plume of flame from his little mouth, flapping his wings once just to cause a little flurry of wind between them. hey, look, I can do that too. after, the dragon walks right up to his hand and headbutts his finger. it's halfway between an okay, but pet me more and just a nudge of acknowledgement ]
[The grin just wouldn't slide off his face as he let the flame die out and held his hand out for the dragon to walk on if it wanted to, petting it gently as he tried not to stare. Tried and failed.]
This is the coolest present anyone has ever gotten me. Ever. Like... ever.
[He turned to her and gave her the brightest smile he had.]
You are officially the coolest person in the world.
He's pretty heavy. [ it's an absent sort of warning, but he's sure he'll feel it once the dragon puts its weight on his hand and moves along his arm. and Rachel made sure not to give him horns or anything too sharp, but she's a little wary of his claws, either way. they weren't drawn particularly savage, but who knows how that translated in real life. but, nah. Stiles's got it.
and like... ever makes her smile wide, too. ]
You need to stop being so cute about this. You're the one that rebuilt my art set for me in one fell swoop. That's easily the coolest present ever.
Hah, no, sorry. Dragon totally trumps art set. Dragon trumps pretty much anything.
[Except maybe a kiss or something from a certain redhead who was looking at him with green eyes and an adorable smile.]
Maybe I'll name him Zeke. Or something draconian. I don't know yet. You'll let me know, right, buddy?
[There was now a dragon making its way from his hand up his arm, deciding that his shoulder was the place it was going to be, thank you. A tail stronger than it look half-coiled around his neck as it made itself at home. Stiles was close to bouncing.]
Dragon wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the art set. So how about them applies?
[ it's only... half true, but she's just arguing for the sake of doing so, more focused on the way the dragon is making himself right at home on Stiles. good. actually, it's really good. she was a little bit worried that the bond between the drawer and drawing wouldn't be able to be swayed, not easily at least, but it looks like the dragon is more than willing to get to know Stiles right away. ]
Although I'm a little mad at myself now. I should have waited a bit before pulling him off the page, because now I'm not sure how I'm going to properly thank you for my gift. Hm.
[Yeah, that's a definite grin, Rach. And it's aimed at you. And it's in place to cover up the fact that his pulse just went through the roof. So close. Redhead so close. System malfunction.]
He might. It's hard to tell. I don't actually have a lot of experience with dragons.
[ to be fair, her heart's sort of hammering away and it has nothing to do with the dragon on his shoulders. mostly with the fact that she's nuzzling at his jaw with her nose, really his jaw since she can't exactly get to his neck with a dragon there. but it's affectionate, that's all, easy affection. ]
-- You should try and coax him to walk back down onto the desk for a minute, I think, definitely.
[ she's just smiling against his cheek for a second before she sits back again and even slouches a bit in her chair, elbows resting on the arms of the chair while her fingers link together over her middle.
[He hates you because you're evil, Rachel. So evil. Help a guy out?
The dragon looks up from where it's clearly decided is nap space and time, giving a disgruntled chirp before settling back down. Nope, he's not moving, thank you.]
[ she shakes her head 'no', reaching out to even stroke her finger along the length of the dragon's tail. sooo soothing. sooo not helping in getting the dragon to decide not to nap after all. ]
Let him sleep, he's like- ten minutes old. Little guy needs to rest up. I'm willing to bet money I'll still want to kiss you once he wakes up again. [ she pauses, looking sideways in thought ] Although I guess you could always try- ..Nah, probably not. Nevermind.
[AAAAH. This was so unfair. She was either teasing him on purpose or his life just sucked that much. He was trying no to to pout. Nope. No pouting. Noooo pouting. He had a dragon. He didn't need to be greedy.
I was just going to say, I'm pretty sure he would be willing to give up that spot on your neck if you bring him over to lay down on one of my pillows. But, I might be wrong, maybe he likes your body heat. Or- I don't know, maybe he really would rather just sleep right near you.
[ she shrugs, her mouth twisting up a bit ]
I just figure a pillow might be a good replacement in the meantime. So I don't feel awkward, just kissing you right in front of him. That seems a little rude.
[It was worth a try. He held up a finger to her, telling her to wait, then he got up and went over to the bed. Oh hey, it was her bed. That he'd been sitting on. That she slept on.
Naked? Probably not. But for the sake of his imagination, that's what she did.]
Hey, look. It's a pillow. Doesn't the pillow look comfortable? Mmm, pillowy goodness. Look how soft and plush it is.
[He was talking to the dragon, poking at the pillow and trying to sell it for all he was worth.
Nope. Stupid thing wasn't budging.]
Oh my god, I'm totally calling you Derek. Stubborn pain in my ass.
[ she's just going to turn in her chair and watch him try to work, elbow bent over the back of her chair she can rest her chin there. it's pretty funny how the dragon is acting like a permanent fixture there, seriously not even blinking an eye open to see what Stiles was going on about. she's pretty sure he's going to end up snoring any minute now. which is even funnier, yeah. ]
Derek the Dragon? Are you going to live in a cartoon house with Sally the Snake and Charlie the Cat?
[ derek the dragon sounds like something from a kids' tv show okay. complete with finding clues and teaching them how to say basic words in spanish. ]
