[This version of Daenerys seems a little more... terse than the one he'd met before. He wondered if she was earlier or further ahead in her world's timeline and what might have happened to her. But hey, he wasn't going to pry.
But he shows up not too long after, Hale perched on his shoulder with one little clawed hand gripping his hair, the other his shirt.]
No, you are very prompt. [ He gets a smile, but her attention shifts too quickly to the dragon clinging to his shoulder. Transfixed, she rises - a hand reaching out (maybe too tentatively, for a mother of dragons) toward the creature. Her hand stops just an inch or two away. ] Has he grown at all, since you have had him?
[ Things she's supposed to be finding out. A complaint was submitted. ]
No, not at all. Rach said he wouldn't grow too much bigger, probably only maybe another half foot if anything. She 'designed' him that way, I guess. Kind of the benefit of her doodlies.
[Hale looked at the hand stretched towards him, head quirking to look at Stiles. Stiles gave him the 'it's okay' look and Hale started making little trilly squawks at her as he stretched his neck out and sniffed at her fingers.]
A useful power. [ Did that make him more an illusion? He feels real enough, little puff of air that tickle her fingers. She brushes the tips against his frill, glancing back at Stiles. ] Does he have need to eat? Breathe fire?
Oh, yeah, he eats. We have a strict no onion rule for him, because he... ah, well, just no onions. And he has a weird sock-chewing fetish. Only while they're on your feet. I don't get it.
[He grinned at that last one, pointing up at the air for Hale and lighting up a spark of his own. Hale looked up, chirped, then sent a jet of flame up after it.]
Onions and socks. [ Her hand pulls away. A faint smile still plays at her lips. She could almost laugh, but it sticks in her throat. Perhaps it is best that he will grow no bigger. ]
Stiles - how much did I tell you about the dragons of my world?
Not too much. You said you were sort of figuring it out as you went along since there hadn't been dragons for a long time. You wanted to talk to Scott about it and bring Drogon to him to see if there were any similarities between dragons and any other lizards.
[Hale made a preening sound after his flame, expecting praise for it and getting a scratch under his chin that he leaned into.]
[ If her heart weren't so hard it would be breaking right now, Stiles. Maybe you've cracked it a little.
She takes in a breath and begins, eyes locked on him now. ]
Dragons are fire made flesh, even their blood burns whatever it touches. My ancestors rode them to war and with only three they claimed seven kingdoms. [ Almost. The seventh gave them a bit of trouble - but that is a separate history lesson. ] The dead and dying attract them, and they will consume whatever flesh they come upon. Even in their youth they have no fear of humans. [ Which is why this dragon has disturbed at least one Westerosi knight. She tries to speak gently, but there's a hardness to her gaze. ] I admit that I do not completely understand your Rachel's power, but you said Hale was created in my Drogon's image. Dragons are no pets, Stiles. I hope that you understand that.
[She was giving of this very intense vibe and it was making him a little unsettled.]
I don't know if his blood burns since he hasn't bled anywhere and I don't plan on cutting him open to check that out. [Undignified squawk] But he's never really been afraid of anyone. He also has a, uh, a sense of humor. I think the drawing power thing lets you sort of... put thought into the power as well as drawing it. So she sort of gave him a personality as well. He eats socks and has the worst gas ever when it comes to onions. He likes taking showers with me and tries to sing along, badly, I might add, when I do. He... understand what I'm saying? To a point, I think.
[He gave Dany a shrug, drawing Hale down to curl up against his chest in his arms, the little scaly head under his chin.]
He's not your exact kinds of dragons. He's as much a pet as, well, as anything is. He can be dangerous, sure, but so can any animal or person.
[Cue Stiles being defensive about his lizard bro.]
[ His lizard bro reminds people of death with wings okay. And it reminds her of things she doesn't want to speak of, with anyone. ]
But he bears resemblance to my children, and many of the people from my world are not likely to see past that. That is why I had to see him for myself. [ Especially if he is flippant about it, as Loras said. ] It is for the best that he can grow no larger, and that you bear a power of flame as well. That he stays so close to your side, and is of a more gentle nature. [ Her own dragons never caused accidental fires, but his power is at least an extra precaution. She shakes her head. ] Almost any animal is dangerous, that is true, but some more than others. [ And dragons are not truly animals, not to them. ]
I don't really see how that's any of their business. I thought you said that people from your world hadn't seen a dragon? So isn't it all just stories and stuff? He's just a baby, and even as an adult, he's not going to be this huge mountain-scaling thing. He's... he's different.
[Hale gave a little chirp, lifting up his head to nose at Stiles' face. He was definitely more affectionate than Dany's dragon had been, and more inquisitive. Like a dog and a cat mixed together in a new body.]
I had a little chat with someone from your world, I guess. Lorax or something. He was kind of a jerk about it. I don't know what you guys are to each other, but if he tries anything... Hale's not who he's going to have to worry about.
Loras Tyrell. A younger son of a Great House in our country. [ An ally of convenience and little else since he will not bend knee to her. ] It is true, dragons have been gone from our world for over a century. But their skulls once hung in the Red Keep [ says Viserys ] and the destruction they once wreaked is not so easily forgotten. [ She watches Hale for a moment, studying that behavior. ] Ser Tyrell is concerned that Hale might do damage to the city and its people. He asked me to speak to you, and from what you describe I have a hard time believing your Hale to be a danger. [ No more so than anyone running around with strange magic anyway. ] I would let no harm come to him, I promise that. But I must ask you to... take the issue more seriously. To understand that not everyone will simply see him the sweet pet at first glance.
Yeah, well, unlike some face-pecking emus, he's actually pretty nicely tempered. He gets along with everyone he's seen so far.
[Aside from his little hissing fit at Isaac, but Isaac had been sort of threatening him at the time, so... you know, totally warranted.]
And I left him to guard Scott while I was gone and he did fine with that and Rue, who's a kid. I wouldn't leave him around a kid if I thought he'd hurt her. If your Loras [He was totally going to think of him as 'Lorasshole' now] can't look at him and see that he's about as threatening as a wet cat, then there's something wrong with that guy that pulling the stick out of his ass won't cure.
[ Ugh, it's not her Loras. And Stiles is definitely too flippant for his own good. ]
So you would judge everyone so harshly, simply for having a different experience from your own? [ A disapproving look. ] I promised you no harm would come to him from the people of my world, I do not think what I ask in return is so difficult.
[Stiles has died three times; twice here and once at home. Stiles really doesn't care about much in the way of threats, either from the gods or some jumped up knight who needs to stop riding his jousting lance.]
I judge people harshly for jumping to some worst case scenario over something innocuous after I told him not to worry about it. We're all jammed in here against our will and he's got a bug up his butt about a pet that's the size of a raccoon. We're fighting giants and trolls and have volcanoes erupting all over the place and he's worried about a baby dragon. I can turn him into a pile of ash in less than a minute, and it's the dragon he's worried about? Hale's good for making s'mores and lighting the fireplace.
[Sorry, Dany, but he was defensive over his bb. He'd lost too much here and was just starting to build up this circle of family and friends and he didn't want some gung-ho Lancelot screwing it up.]
[ She's not here to make enemies for the sake of a man she has no particular liking for, but this is not endearing Stiles to her at all. Her tone is chilly. ]
It is concern for the city that brought me here, not threats. Continue this spat Loras Tyrell if that is what you both desire, I have seen enough.
[ So with that she is going to turn to leave now. ]
That part of him that was ingrained to sort of... buckle when women were mad reared up and had him taking a step after her.]
Wait. Hold on.
[Gee, Stiles. Where did your balls go? Oh, right, you didn't have any.]
Look, I'm sorry, okay. I'm not... I'm not mad at you. I'm just really tired of people getting pissy at me for no good reason. If he'd had a problem with it, he could have come and talked to me. But he didn't. He just gave me the 'little boy' speech and went and bitched to you. Do you really think I'd be cool with a pet that just snacked on people for fun? Or that the gods would let me keep something like that? They're jerks. They turn people into foxes for shits and giggles.
[He lifted a hand to comb through his hair, Hale moving back up to his shoulder and clinging onto him.]
[ It's not enough to even make her pause, but she responds one last time without turning around. ] You forget, I don't know you at all. [ And that makes all of this more difficult for her to navigate. Her fellow kidnappees have clothed her, fed her, shared their knowledge - and that kindness is not wasted. But trust isn't a simple thing for her.
Stiles stole Drogon's image and cares nothing for what that means, she has no more time for someone like that. ]
[Hey, Stiles hadn't stolen anything. Rachel had been the one to draw him, and she'd never seen Drogon.
But he wasn't going to chase after her. This Dany wasn't the one he'd known and he didn't know what had happened to her, but he had bigger things to worry about than her possibly hurt feelings over something he hadn't done.]
